Fans of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption may soon have a new title to sink their teeth into.
Rockstar themselves have yet to give any official word on a new title in the series, which has thus far seen Red Dead Redemption and it’s numbered sequel, as well as standalone zombies expansion, Undead Nightmare.
However, it was previously indicated via the South Korean ratings board‘s updated RDR age rating that the franchise was seeing new light. Furthermore, prominent gaming insider “Tez2” shared to X (Formerly Twitter) an update to the game list on the Rockstar Games website.
With the codename “RDR1SP”, the leading theory among fans is that the listing teases a remastered version of the first Red Dead Redemption title, which released on Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3 consoles in 2010.
It’s important to note that this is by no means an official confirmation. However, insider leaks have proven to be reliable in the past.
Rockstar has form when it comes to remastering its previous titles too. The most recent example being The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition – a compilation of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas.
When compared to the releases of Red Dead Redemption and it’s sequel, as well as Rockstar’s lead title Grand Theft Auto V, the GTA remaster failed to meet expectations. Fans will hope that RDR’s potential remaster captures the tone of it’s predecessor better.
Red Dead Redemption was previously shelved to focus on GTA VI
It had been previously reported by Kotaku & “Tez2” that Red Dead Redemption’s remaster had been shelved following the launch of its GTA remaster.
It was said that the publisher was hoping that fans forget the debacle accompanying GTA Trilogy. They wanted to focus on GTA VI instead.
At the time, it was stated that RDR remaster wasn’t entirely out of scope and could still happen. It’s reasonable to expect Rockstar may have adapted their stance in the time passed.
