Jordan Howard has become basically forgotten in fantasy football. Should he be or can Howard recapture some magic in Miami? Jordan Howard isn’t a sexy name in fantasy, but 2020 presents a unique set of circumstances. Howard is the lead dog with not much competition behind him. He’s also been basically on nobody’s radar. Howard come become very fantasy relevant in Miami.
Last year was not great for any fantasy running back in Miami. Ryan Fitzpatrick was the team’s leading rusher. No, I’m being serious. Fitzpatrick led the team in rushing last year. Combine that with what resulted in the worse offensive line in football. Howard could very well step in and disappear because that’s what Dolphin running backs did last year. They all vanished into oblivion regardless of who it was.
Then again, there’s a real chance Miami improves. They did draft a bunch of offensive linemen. They went out in free agency and brought in Byron Jones, Kyle Van Noy, and Shaq Lawson. The Dolphins could have more leads than they did a year ago. There’s also the Tua Tagovailoa factor who could turn this team into a division winner (it’s the AFC East).
Howard isn’t far removed from good fantasy seasons. During his rookie and 2nd year campaign, Howard finished with back to back RB 9 finishes in fantasy. The problem is, he hasn’t quite looked the same and his YPC averaged dipped to 3.7 in his final year in Chicago. Obviously, Matt Nagy didn’t love him in his offense.
Howard was useful in fantasy with Philadelphia. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry and 6 touchdowns in 10 games. If Howard finished that season with the Eagles instead of getting hurt, we probably view him in a different light.
Howard is the man in Miami. Matt Breida is really only a change of pace and pass catching option. Nobody else is a threat. Finding starting running backs who should carry the full workload is hard. Howard has a chance to do that.
