Disney will make less Marvel and Star Wars content in the future

The has been no shortage of Marvel and Star Wars television shows and movies. These two franchises have been ruling over popular culture for decades. There have been over 25 Marvel movies and five Star Wars films released in the last ten years. There is an over-saturation of these franchises in the film industry.

These movies are huge hits each time and make a lot of money at the box office, which would make sense for Disney to stick to this formula, though Bob Iger says Disney will be heading in a different direction.

Bob Iger is the CEO of Disney and it appears wants to make some changes. I can see where he is coming from because the superhero market Is certainly over-saturated. Also, it feels like the Marvel movies as of recent have lost their charm.

This development could be because some Marvel fans and some more casual film fans have checked out. Marvel released 22 movies in 11 years starting with Iron Man (2008) and ending with Avengers: Endgame (2019). This era of Marvel was truly a unique time for movie fans, as there was an 11-year plan from Disney, and it was fully executed on the big screen.

A plan this huge might never happen again in Hollywood, but it came at a cost. A lot of fans did receive some burnout after the constant stream of movies, so it makes sense why Disney may slow down the amount of Star Wars and Marvel content. Hopefully, Disney will never cease those two franchise’s content.

Another reason why Iger may want to change courses in the future is because of the amount of Marvel and Star Wars shows being produced.

Admittedly, I have been loving all of these television series that are released on Disney+. Each show has offered more insight into characters and their respective franchises, offering a nice variety in the tones and styles of each show.

However, the television space is beginning to be diluted from content like the film industry. There are already nearly ten new Marvel shows that have debuted on Disney+ since 2021 with over five new Star Wars shows on Disney+ released in recent years.

Disney will need to find a balance between releasing new Marvel and Star Wars content without it being overkill for fans. Iger stated they will be cutting back on new releases from the franchises moving forward, but these shows are popular for a reason and that is because a lot of people love these two beloved franchises.
