The Yankees Would Be Morons To Trade For Shohei Ohtani

I have been a Red Sox fan my whole life. It’s the only team where my emotions sometimes still get the best of me. I want you to keep that in mind as you read this today. As a die-hard Sox fan, I am rooting for the Yankees to trade Shohei Ohtani. Yankee fans can say whatever they want but the truth of the matter is this season is toast and trading for Ohtani will change nothing.

Trading for Ohtani would be a massive mistake and any Yankee fan willing to say otherwise is uneducated. Trey knows baseball. The rest of the Yankee fans remain delusional. That screenshot below if you click the picture is from March 25th. I’m the only person in America that thought Baltimore was better. That’s exactly what’s happening.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but this Yankees roster is broken. It’s been that way for the last two years. Except last year Judge hit 70 bombs and this year he’s not on the field. That’s the only difference. The offense is totally broken and there is a reason why Sean Casey is the new hitting coach. This team doesn’t score runs at all. New York ranks 27th in batting average and 26th in on-base percentage. There is no doubt that Ohtani is a true air craft carrier but he doesn’t fix the issues on this club.

Third base was a black hole with Josh Donaldson. The team is getting virtually zero production out of the corner outfield spots. Giancarlo Stanton is miles worse than he was with Miami. Anthony Rizzo and DJ LeMahieu are also past their prime. The bullpen is a shell of its former self. The rotation is a walking corpse outside of Gerrit Cole. This team should be sellers, not buyers and any honest person that watches that team every day should be willing to acknowledge it.

Also buying shouldn’t even be a consideration until Aaron Judge is back on the field. Based on injury reports, who knows when that will be?

Yes, Ohtani is a rental but he’s the best player in baseball and will still cost an arm and a leg in terms of an acquisition cost. You’re going to have to gut the entire system to get this trade to go through and it already is a weaker farm. To go all in with a broken roster is a fool’s errand.
