Where Will Cooper Flagg Play After High School?

Cooper Flagg was already considered one of the top prospects in the class of 2025, but he really put himself in the national spotlight with his recent performance at the 2023 Nike EYBL Peach Jam tournament. He dropped 38 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists, and six blocks in Maine United’s final game of pool play just a few days before a 37-point, 12-rebound, six-assist, 10-block outburst in a double OT quarterfinal victory. Although Flagg’s team fell just short in the tournament final, it was nonetheless an extremely dominant individual run.

Flagg will have no shortage of options for where he plays after high school. The 6’8″ phenom has already fielded a number of offers, including some from top programs. Duke, Kansas, UCLA, and Villanova have each put their hat in the ring, which is the type of attention expected for a player with a .9998 prospect rating on 247Sports.

The Maine native has also garnered attention from schools in the New England region. Maine would be a fun choice, but they likely won’t be an attractive option considering that the Black Bears have not finished .500 or better in over a decade. Flagg also has offers from UConn and Providence.

Cooper Flagg to G League Ignite?

If tasked with predicting where Flagg plays after high school, I wouldn’t pick any of the aforementioned schools. I would instead look at G League Ignite, which is quickly becoming the premier alternative pathway to college basketball. The Ignite program has seen 10 players drafted in the last three years. This includes a few who likely would have been drafted straight out of high school if allowed. Cooper Flagg feels like a G League archetype. He may even reclassify to start the program a year early like Scoot Henderson did.

Cooper Flagg will be pursued by a number of major college basketball programs, and the NIL deals he’ll be offered won’t make it an easy call. However, G League Ignite is building a strong track record and I like them to get his services when all is said and done.
