Kylian Mbappé calls PSG a ‘Divisive Team’

The broken relationship between Kylian Mbappé and PSG looks well on its way to being irreparable following Mbappé’s declaration that the club is a “divisive team.” The French superstar made these comments in an interview with France Football magazine on Sunday.

“I think that playing for PSG doesn’t help much because it’s a divisive team, a divisive club,” Mbappé said.

These comments were made as the contract dispute between the 24-year-old attacker and PSG rages on.

In June, Mbappé made headlines when he announced that he would not be extending his contract with the club. While his contract had a clause that would allow him to extend his stay in Paris through 2025, he has decided to not activate the extension. Now, he will be able to join a new club as a free agent next summer.

However, despite announcing that he would not extend his contract, Mbappé tweeted that he was happy in Paris and would remain a PSG player next season.

This appeared to be a clear shot at the club’s higher-ups. He would deny PSG any opportunity to profit off of his sale if he leaves on a free transfer. The club paid €180 million ($197 million) to sign Mbappé from AS Monaco in 2017. If he leaves on a free transfer next year, PSG would not be able to recoup their original investment.

As you can imagine, this has not gone over well with the PSG hierarchy who are determined not to let their star man leave for free.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on Wednesday that Mbappé will have to sign a new contract if he wishes to stay at the club next year. Otherwise, he will have to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer.

Mbappé’s most recent comments seem to be a clear indicator of his future with PSG–calling your club divisive is not a way to mend the relationship. He seems keen to move on, and it is looking more likely with every passing day that Mbappé will not be in France next season.

Meanwhile, PSG is continuing to rebuild ahead of next season. The club signed Luis Enrique as its new manager last week, replacing Christophe Galtier. The Ligue 1 champs are also bringing in a swarm of new players ahead of next season.

The relationship between Mbappé and PSG appears to be completely broken. Both look ready to move on from one another, and no reconciliation looks likely.

Keep an eye on this situation in the coming days and weeks. Kylian Mbappé looks more likely than ever to move on from PSG this summer.
