Andy Reid could be the best coach ever, according to Michael Vick

Andy Reid could be the best coach ever, according to Michael Vick

Who is the greatest NFL head coach of all time? Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, Bill Walsh and Tom Landry immediately come to mind. A current coach and potential GOAT front runner is Bill Belichick, and he may be No. 1 on a lot of lists. However, I have always thought one name was missing from this conversation and it appears Michael Vick agrees: Andy Reid.

Looking strictly as his accolades, Reid is one of the best coaches of all time. Coming off a Super Bowl win over Philadelphia, he has added something to his résumé that all the best coaches have: multiple Super Bowl rings.

Vick played for Reid for four seasons and had a lot of praise to give the 65-year-old. Appearing on Tyreek Hill‘s “It Needed To Be Said” podcast, the 13-year NFL veteran said great things about Reid.

“He might be the greatest coach of all time. You don’t have to win championships to be considered … But Coach [Reid] did it in Philly, and then he doing it in KC.”

(Quote via Tyreek Hill’s YouTube channel)

Reid deserves his flowers as an offensive mogul and overall great coach. He has only had three losing seasons in his 24-year coaching career. He got his first head coaching gig in 1999 when he took over the Philadelphia Eagles. Reid coached in Philadelphia for 14 years before he took the Kansas City Chiefs job in 2013, where he is entering his 11th season.

Reid has two Super Bowls under his belt, but the best part about it is he might not be done. The Chiefs are looking like Super Bowl favorites once again in 2023. Ultimately, another Super Bowl and continued winning would further Reid’s legitimacy in any GOAT coach conversation in the future.

Andy Reid vs. Bill Belichick

Reid and Belichick are two of the greatest coaches ever.

Belichick is the gold standard, boasting the most Super Bowl wins with six. He is second all-time in wins (329) and has a overall winning percentage of 66.2. However, Belichick had Tom Brady as his quarterback for 20 years, a man whom a lot of people consider the greatest player ever. Furthermore, Belichick is 0-1 in the playoffs without Brady and he missed the playoffs altogether the previous two years.

Ultimately, he is statistically one of the best coaches ever and he coached one of the greatest dynasties in the Brady-led New England Patriots.

On the other hand, Andy Reid is currently fifth in wins all-time with 269. He has a winning percentage of 64.1 and the aforementioned two Super Bowls. He has been successful in two different places, Philadelphia and Kansas City.

However, similar to Belichick, Reid is also coaching one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time: Patrick Mahomes. Over the past four years, the Chiefs have been to three Super Bowls and won two of them. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs can win another Super Bowl, adding to Reid and Mahomes’ GOAT cases.

Ultimately, Reid and Belichick are two of the best coaches ever and football fans are blessed to watch the pair stand on the sidelines on Sundays.
