Nate Sudfeld Will Be The Eagles Backup Quarterback

Don’t worry Eagle fans. This next story will make you VERY happy. Philadelphia spent a 2nd round pick on Jalen Hurts to be the backup quarterback, right? Well, not so fast! Hurts is going to be the backup to the backup. Not a joke. I’m laughing hysterically as I’m writing this.

Doug Pederson confirmed today that Nate Sudfeld will be the primary backup to Carson Wentz for the 2020 season:

“Having played in this league for so long and seeing this pandemic and thinking back to when we came out of the lockout year, I think early on in this season, this becomes a veteran-laden football season,” Pederson said. “Football teams are going to have to rely on their veteran players, and Nate [Sudfeld] is one of those guys for us. He’s been on our roster now for the last couple of seasons and he knows exactly what we’re doing. I have a ton of confidence in Nate to become the backup quarterback. Nothing is ever handed to anybody, and we always try to create competition at every position, and quarterback — as you guys know — is not exempt from that. But I fully expect Nate to come in and be aggressive and do the things that he’s capable of doing and become the backup to Carson [Wentz].”

Jalen Hurts Should Not Be Taken Seriously As A Potential Franchise Quarterback

The good news is that the Eagles didn’t spend a high draft pick on Jalen Hurts so it’s not a big deal. Oh, this is hilarious. So what you’re saying is that Hurts is going to ride the bench in year one and probably just remain a backup for the remainder of his career? Great pick, Howie Roseman! Great job!
