Manchester United Set To Sign Mason Mount

The mass exodus from Chelsea continues as Manchester United has agreed to a deal with the Blues for Mason Mount.

The clubs have agreed to a £55 million ($69.4 million) initial fee with another £5 million ($6.3 million) in add-on fees. This will be United’s first signing of the summer.

Mount is set to leave his childhood club after making 195 appearances for the Blues. He was part of the Chelsea squad that won the 2021 UEFA Champions League.

United has been chasing Mount all summer, with manager Erik ten Hag keen on adding the English international to his squad next season. However, it was beginning to look like Manchester United would be unable to convince Chelsea to part ways with Mount.

Manchester United saw its initial bid of £40 million rejected by the Blues, who were wanting at least £70 million for their former academy graduate. United was reported to not be willing to spend more than £55 million for Mount, and with the two sides seemingly unable to reach a compromise, it was looking like United would have to pursue other targets.

Despite reports that United had ditched its efforts to sign Mount, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that this was false. Now, the two sides have agreed to a deal and Mount is set to become a Red Devil.

Chelsea likely agreed to a smaller fee due to fears that they would lose Mount on a free transfer next summer. He refused to sign a new contract with the club and was entering the final year of his contract. It looks like Chelsea decided to cash out while they could, rather than let Mount walk for free.

Welcome to Manchester, Mason Mount.
