After a down 2019 season, it’s fair to wonder how many years TY Hilton has left. Recently, Indy’s offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni came out and said Hilton is the focal point of the passing game. Let’s take it a step further. Is Hilton a priority when his contract runs out at the conclusion of the 2020 season? Now that’s a different ballgame.

It takes two to tengo but Hilton had some pretty strong words. Not only does he want to finish his career with the Colts, the former Florida International product said his next contract will be his last.

“It takes two sides,” Hilton said. “It’s up to [owner Jim] Irsay and [general manager] Chris [Ballard] to get the job done. I want to be a Colt. So you heard it from me.”

“Whether it’s two years, three years, four years,” he said. “Whatever it is.”

TY Hilton acknowledged he let his teammates down last year. The speedy wide out was hampered with injuries all year. Not to mention some bad quarterback play mixed in. A season with 45 receptions for 501 yards in 10 games is not what you’re used to. With Philip Rivers in house and a full offseason to get healthy, Hilton should have a big year. Plus, he has a contract to play for.

This will be an interesting contract negotiation. Will Chris Ballard buck up for an injury plagued player he didn’t draft? That remains to be seen. Maybe the two sides will get something done. Who knows if Hilton will take a hometown discount or test the open market and play for another team. The more surprising part is that Hilton has already thought about retirement.
