Giants Want To Fix OL “Once and For All” With Andrew Thomas

The New York Giants strike again. More like Giants GM Dave Gettleman strikes again. Either way, the Giants took Andrew Thomas at…4 in the NFL draft of 2020. It seems a little high for me for any Tackle. I can appreciate the Giants addressing their need for an offensive line. But, I had the first tackle going off the board at 8 to the Cardinals. There was time to take a Tackle. They could have traded down and still got him. Alas, not my decision, Andrew Thomas went to the Giants, and that’s that. Here’s what New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman and Head Coach Joe Judge said about the move via ProFootballTalk.

The offensive line has been a weak spot for the team for several years and General Manager Dave Gettleman told reporters that taking Thomas was part of a move to fix the unit “once and for all.” Doing so would be a boost to the team’s last two first-round picks — quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley — along with the rest of the offense.

New York Giants’ Head Coach Joe Judge had this to say about the move:

“I think this is going to be a tremendous move right now to help Daniel play more confident back there, not that he needs that, but he can sit back and be protected and we’ve got to go ahead and be more stiff,” Judge said. “I talk all of the time, you have to run the ball, you have to stop the run, you have to cover kicks, so we’ve got to add to our run blocking as well to give ourselves a chance to get going on the ground.”

I can appreciate the Giants picking a great tackle, maybe the best one in the draft. But I just thought that there were better prospects on the board. I’m hoping it works out for them, time will only tell. The Giants still have plenty of holes to fix on their team.
