Tua Tagovailoa To The Patriots?

Tua Tagovailoa to the Patriots? Why the once unlikely theory could become a reality on draft day. Reports indicate there’s at least a chance. (VASHA HUNT/ASSOCIATED PRESS)

Could you imagine if the Patriots end up drafting Tua Tagovailoa? Apparently, that unlikely theory isn’t too far off? As usual, reports have been flying off the hook at the 2020 NFL Draft gets closer and closer. With teams unable to see Tua Tagovailoa in person because of corona, it could be affecting his draft stock. Three new reports indicate the Patriots could be the landing spot for Tua.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe thinks the “stars are aligning” for the Patriots. He essentially believes that Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn’s relationship with Bill Belichick will help the Patriots trade up to the third spot. Fun theory but New England doesn’t really have the ammo to move up. They already don’t have a third round pick. It would likely cost them existing players on the roster. Plus, Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn know if they make that trade, they’re getting fired.

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report claims that Tua is QB 3 or 4 on some teams boards. I buy that but that’s any prospect. Jeff Okudah might be CB 5 on the Packers draft board. We don’t know. People put out mock drafts but nobody knows for sure who each team likes. Every team has wildly different opinions. It’s not the cookie cutter shit you see on TV. There are always surprises on draft day. This is the best way for the Patriots to actually land Tua. Miami would have to take Justin Herbert and the Chargers would have to take Jordan Love. That’s really the only way Tua is in play for New England.

Mike Reiss of ESPN.com says the Patriots will draft a quarterback this year. That might be the most important factor. Bill Belichick is a weird cat. He always has internal rules building the roster. In most instances, Belichick drafts a QB every other year. It’s like clockwork. It’s very rare he drafts a QB in back to back years. The fact that he wants one this year is a sign they might be interested in Tua. Will Tua Tagovailoa become a member of the Patriots on draft day? It might kill more people than corona has.
