The Miami Dolphins 2020 offseason is a turning point for the franchise. Miami entered the offseason with buckets of cash to spend in free agency and 14 draft picks after sellilng off multiple veterans. The Dolphins signed a lof of players in free agency, but my favorite move might be the signing of Shaq Lawson. The former 2016 first round pick from Clemson seems to be getting better every year.
Shaq Lawson signed a 3-year contract worth $30 million with Miami. It’s a bit of a steep price tag but I don’t think he’s reached his peak yet. Lawson tends to agree and claims he’s ready to bring the “juice”:
“I’m at a point of my career where I’m just only getting better — making strides each year,” Lawson said, via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald. “Each year I’ve gotten better, improved. Getting more comfortable in the game. I feel like these next coming years, I’ve got a lot of juice. I’ve got a lot to bring to the table, and I showed glimpses of it last year with only just playing on the amount of snaps I was playing. I’m just ready to go get it and just [try] to be a double-digit sack guy.”
Lawson, 25, spent the first 4 years of his career in Buffalo. It’s been a slow journey for Shaq. He produced just 10 sacks in his first 3 NFL seasons. This past year, he had 6.5 and just looked more dominant in general. Lawson should just be entering the prime of his career now. A double digit sack season could be on the way.
The Dolphins brought in a lot of pass rushing help this offseason. It’s not just Shaq Lawson. Kyle Van Noy and Emmanuel Ogbah were also acquired. The biggest fish they landed being Byron Jones at cornerback. The Dolphins are just starting out their rebuild. The next step is nailing the 2020 NFL Draft.
