2020 NFL Draft War Room: New York Jets

2020 NFL Draft

The New York Jets have one of the worst rosters in the NFL. The 2020 NFL Draft has to be the first step towards fixing that. Free agency hasn’t really helped fix matters either. George Fant and Breshad Perriman are in. Brandon Shell and Robby Anderson are out. Not exactly the sexiest offseason ever. The Jets NEED a big 2020 NFL Draft. Let’s go inside the war room to see what might be in store for the Gang Green.

New York holds the 11th pick in this draft. The big thing for the Jets is they actually have 8 picks. That’s been an issue in the past where big misses and trading up has really hurt the team in recent years. The Leonard Williams trade netting the Jets a high 3rd round pick can make or break the 2020 NFL Draft for New York.

I think the Jets are in a similar place to a lot of teams in this range. Wide receiver or tackle. Mekhi Becton or Jerry Jeudy? CeeDee Lamb or Jedrick Wills? Both are massive holes on the Jets roster. George Fant is the projected starter at left tackle right now and he was playing snaps at tight end for Seattle. Quicy Enunwa is the projected number two wide receiver and he has a broken neck. That’s how dire these positions are for the Jets. Honestly, it may not matter which direction the Jets go. They can’t miss.

It’s hard to name specific needs because there are holes everywhere. Cornerback room needs work. Brian Poole is a stud in the slot but the other CB needs are dire. Pierre Desir is the number one corner right now and Indianapolis cut him. Bryce Hall of Virginia is round two makes some sense. Hall is a long corner who can win in press. He is someone that can win matchups on the outside. The Jets don’t have a player on the roster who can say that.

New York also needs one more guard. Credit to them for picking up Connor McGovern at center. Brian Winters is fine at the other guard spot. The left side held by Alex Lewis who could easily be replaced. Maybe a player like John Simpson of Clemson fills that need. The Jets should probably double up. Take a flier on the D3 offensive lineman, Ben Bartch. The Jets need to protect Sam Darnold at all costs.
