The Redskins fired their general manager Scot McCloughan yesterday in what was a weird twist to the start of their offseason. The Redskins appear to already have a candidate in mind. NFL Network Draft Expert Mike Mayock is apparently on the Redskins radar. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported the news.
Mayock is a former safety in the NFL who played for the Steelers and Giants. Most notably under former Giants defensive coordinator Bill Belichick. Mayock is considered an expert in talent evaluation for the NFL Draft (At least for NFL Network he is).
Mayock doesn’t have extensive experience in a front office. He has been with NFL Network for 12 years now. This is an unprecedented situation as Fox Sports analyst John Lynch has left broadcasting to join the 49ers this past season.
I can say for NFL fans everywhere that he will be missed if he decides to leave NFL Network.
