Lorenzo Alexander had an unexpected breakout season for the Bills in 2016 recording 12.5 sacks. Alexander, 33, only had 9.5 sacks during his first 9 years in the league. ESPN reporter Josina Anderson has reported that the Bills have re-signed Alexander to a 2-year deal worth a total of $9 million, 4.1 of which is guaranteed. Alexander also announced the deal on twitter.
Alexander was one of the best stories all season as he also started all 16 games and recorded an interception and 3 forced fumbles. He will now have to try to recapture that success in a totally different defense. In 2016 he played in a 3-4 defense under Rex Ryan. In 2017 it will be a 4-3 base scheme under new head coach Sean McDermott.
2016 was the first year he made a pro bowl appearance after mostly being regarded as an ace special teams player previously.
