Hot Take! Manchester City won’t win the Premier League this season. Barring a miracle of epic proportions the Title will head to Anfield, but it won’t be Sergio Aguero’s fault. The Argentinian striker became the highest scoring non British player in Premier League history on Sunday as his hat-trick helped City to a comfortable 6-1 win against struggling Aston Villa.

Sergio Aguero moved to Manchester in 2011 for what was then a club record fee of £31.5 million, but which by today’s standards is a bargain, and became a hero on the final day of the season with a 95th minute winner against Queens Park Rangers to give Manchester City their first Premier League title over rivals United on goal difference.

The Argentinian has helped bring three more titles to The Ethiad and won the Golden Boot in the 2014-15 season. On Sunday he overtook Thierry Henry as the greatest non British goalscorer in Premier League history with his twelfth EPL career hat-trick. With 177 goals he is now tied fourth in all time goal scorers with Frank Lampard and only ten away from Andy Cole in third.

Third place may be the limit for Aguero though, who has seen his time becoming more limited at Manchester City this season (he’s played less minutes than Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez), as his next targets would then be Wayne Rooney on 208 goals and Alan Shearer on 260. Considering he’s 31 years old and his limited minutes, as mentioned above, overtaking them may be a bit of a long shot. His contract runs out at the end of next season and hes made no secret of the fact he would like to end his career where he started it at Independiente in the Argentinian Primera División.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Leaves Manchester United, Signs With LA Galaxy

Despite time not being on his side to overtake Alan Shearer, Sergio Aguero will most likely (and rightly so) go down as one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League. Now if only he and Messi could sort out the Argentinian team and win a World Cup.
