Dan Snyder Wants Mike Tomlin For Head Coach

The first domino on the NFL coaching firing spree has already fallen, with the Washington Redskins firing Head Coach Jay Gruden. Rumors have run rampant about who Owner Dan Synder will peg as the next guy in our nation’s capital. The name that has come up the most? The current Head Coach in Pittsburgh: Mike Tomlin.

Mike Tomlin, 13 years the Head Coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is on the hot seat after starting 1-4 to begin the season. So, it is fair to understand why Dan Snyder would want him as the next guy, but it wouldn’t be so easy to get him. Mike Tomlin is a Virginia native, born in Hampton, so he has ties to the area already. It makes sense to want to bring in a guy with such pedigree and Super Bowl-winning experience as Tomlin has. My only concern is that over these last 3 years or so, many reports have come out about his inability to handle a locker room. But with a young team without many stars like they have in Washington, that may not be an issue.

Is Mike Tomlin the right guy in Washington? Possibly. Dan Snyder is also considering one or two high-level assistants as well, but first-year head coaches don’t often see much success in the NFL. It would probably take a pretty penny to get Tomlin to Washington if he gets fired, but it is a wild thought to see another coaching trade a la Jon Gruden back in 2002. Will Mike Tomlin end up in Washington? We shall see.
