5-Star D-Lineman Travis Shaw Commits to North Carolina

Travis Shaw, the No. 4 player in the class of 2022 according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, committed to North Carolina and Mack Brown over Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina A&T on CBS Sports HQ earlier today.

Shaw recorded 84 tackles and 28 tackles for loss last season as a junior at Grimsley High School in Greensboro, N.C. He helped lead the school to a 10-0 record and the 4A state championship. When asked why he chose the Tar Heels, Shaw said how comfortable Mack Brown and the coaching staff made him feel:

“It was all love there. It was all genuine.”

Shaw is the second top-five player to become a Tar Heel – Marvin Austin was the first in 2007. 247Sports recruiting analyst Chris Singletary had this to say about the 6’5” defensive lineman:

“He is still athletic enough to play all over the defensive line with great production. He is light on his feet and makes plays off the edge and the interior. With his power and bull rush he does an excellent job pushing the pocket and causing disruption. Shaw is has excellent awareness and is able to read and react on plays that are away from him, chasing them down from the backside.”

“Shaw brings athleticism not normally seen in a player his size, that makes for his upside to being off the charts and him projecting to being a Power Five starter for multiple years. I think that he projects as an All Conference player with the chance of being a 1st round pick in the NFL Draft.”

Mack Brown and the Tar Heels continue to thrive on the recruiting trail and, with Shaw’s addition, now sit 13th on 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings for the class of 2022.
