2025 Stanley Cup Finals: The Rematch No One Can Complain About

Some say The Godfather: Part Two was better than the original. It doesn’t always work out that way, but the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals may fit that description. The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers will square off again for the second time in a row, and I’m not sure it’s a matchup anyone can complain about.

If you’re thinking about getting in on the action for the Stanley Cup, check out FanDuel SportsBook for all the best odds! Before I get on with it, Connor McDavid to win the Conn Smythe at -105 odds. If Edmonton wins, you know it’s going to him, so think about putting that ticket in before the odds get too insane.

Let’s just call it what it is. These are the two best teams. The NHL is superior to the NBA in every way imaginable, and that gap is only growing with Adam Silver’s idiotic antics. A matchup like this wouldn’t even exist in the NBA anymore. Florida and Edmonton would be forced to tear their great teams down. Instead, both return with new faces and better versions of their previous selfs.

Brad Marchand is now on the third line in Florida.

Jake Walman and John Klingberg have revitalized the Oilers’ blue line.

Oh, and Seth Jones looks like a totally different player since joining the Panthers.

None of this would be possible in the NBA. Good thing Gary Bettman understands having more good players appears on the highest pinnacle of the sport is probably a great thing.

We get Barkov vs. McDavid again. Tkachuk vs. Draisaitl again. What version of Stuart Skinner are we getting? Ditto for Bobrovsky?

Sure, we have another rematch, but these are clearly the two best teams, and notice not one NHL fan is complaining about it. We just all want to see the greatness of Barkov and McDavid go at it again at the highest level.

The NHL is doing it right. The NBA will trot out two small market teams that aren’t paying the luxury tax. The NHL will feature two behemoths who ooze greatness, and we all can’t wait to watch it.

Mark my words. The NHL will pass the NBA in the coming years, and it’s moments like this you will look back and remember why.
