2025 NFL Scouting Combine Preview

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine starts on February 27th and goes through March 2nd. I usually don’t do a preview of the event itself but in an effort to provide you with the best information possible, I figure it would best to give a quick rundown of things I’m looking for once we’re underway. When I say rapid-fire mode, I mean it. The in-depth analysis will here when the time comes, don’t you worry.

Quarterbacks:

Will Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders throw? It sounds like the answer is yes but we’ll see. By the way, has anyone seen the videos of them working out together at UNLV? Hilarious and must watch. Sure looks like they’re bringing out the best in each other, which can only help.

Is Quinn Ewers healthy and if so will he run like a pedestrian? I have hope but we’ll see.

I’m just going to tell you this right now. Tyler Shough and Kyle McCord is going to be higher on my list than Jaxson Dart is. I would imagine I’m higher on McCord than pretty much everyone else.

The rest of these guys are a waste of time. Jalen Milroe is a ceiling play and I’m just telling you this right now, the 40 time he’s going to run is going to be outrageous.

Running Backs:

Can’t wait to compare Bucky Irving and Jordan James in back-to-back years. If you pay attention to this site, you know how I feel about both. James might be the better player… Think he’s going to run faster. Not sure he’s going to look as good catching the ball. We’ll see.

Same thing with Travis vs. Trevor Etienne. Will be fun to compare their numbers. I like Trevor more and he won’t be drafted nearly as high as older bro was.

Will Ashton Jeanty ride the draft politics? How fast really is he? Are we positive he’s going to truly stand out from the other quality backs here?

Is Cam Skattebo a fullback or a real running back? Rich man’s Le’Ron McClain?

TreVeyon Henderson may not win the 40 title but I’d be surprised if he’s not one of the best 10-yard split winners.

Don’t think Ollie Gordon is nearly as fast as you think he is. Kansas State DJ Giddens might be faster than him.

Montrell Johnson is a turd. Kaleb Johnson is TBD. Ditto Omarion Hampton.

Wide Receivers:

Tetairoa McMillan is the only first round player in this section. Luther Burden can be but how much of prime Deebo Samuel does he really have in him? Won’t have the same broken tackle ability but can he be juicier Percy Harvin? We’ll see.

Cross Isaiah Bond off your list and laugh at whatever he runs. It will be fast and I don’t care.

Tez Johnson blew up the Senior Bowl. I’d imagine he does the same here. Movement skills obvious.

Tre Harris will be the winner of the week if he’s healthy.

Tight Ends:

Elijah Arroyo is going to be my TE1. It’s a matter of if he can prove it. I think he will.

Harold Fannin Jr gives me Isaiah Likely vibes (who really didn’t test well coming out of Coastal). We’ll see.

Oronde Gadsden II grew on me at the East-West. Can’t wait to see more.

Not convinced Tyler Warren is freakier than some of the past Penn State guys like Mike Gesicki but that’s what this event is for.

Highly doubt Luke Lachey will do his George Kittle impression.

Offensive Line:

I base 90% of my offensive line evaluations based on what they do at the Combine. Most people don’t but I don’t care about most people. The resume speaks for itself. Nothing matters more for offensive lineman than their ability to recover from chaos. The best ones look the best here. Some initial thoughts going in are this…

Tyler Booker is a yes.

Jonah Savaiinaea looks like a future stud guard.

Defensive Line:

How close is Abdul Carter to Micah Parsons?

Is Donovan Ezeiruaku try hard or actually athletic?

Mason Graham should be powerful.

Walter Nolen 10 yard time should be stupid good. It has to be after the Senior Bowl.

JT Tuimoloau is the best pass rusher in the draft and I don’t care what you say.

Princely Umanmielen is my wildcard performer.

Deone Walker probably didn’t learn to bend his knees but he has another chance to do it.

Linebackers:

Jihaad Campbell freak or just really good? Still mooing or a real linebacker?

Smael Mondon Jr I’m expecting fast.

What’s Your Excuse For Skipping The Combine? 2024 Edition

Defensive Backs:

Jahdae Barron looks like a safety to me.

I expect Travis Hunter to look like an alien who is above everyone else.

40 time will be key for Will Johnson. He won’t be as fast as you think he is.
