A lot of short stops to cover with this year’s player draft, this time covering 18-year-old JoJo Parker, who gives scouts a lot to like. (Hannah Mattix/Clarion Ledger / USA TODAY NETWORK)

There is no shortage of Short stops in this year’s MLB draft. One of those is JoJo Parker out of Mississippi. Does he have the skill set to stand out? Or will he be just another flameout? Let’s find out.

At just 18 years old, there’s a lot to like about JoJo Parker’s game. Starting with his hit tool. While his brother Jacob has more pop than JoJo. It’s clear that JoJo overall possesses a more impressive hit tool, which has seen him jump into the first round after a strong senior season.

Parker is expected to be a plus hitter with average to above-average power. He has a pretty left-handed swing and uses a good command of the strike zone to hunt for his pitch, allowing him to drive the ball into gaps consistently.

He’s already showing an ability to drive the ball in the air more and is posting better exit velocities as he continues to put on muscle.

Overall, just an impressive hit tool with JoJo Parker, especially at just 18 years old. There will be ample time for Parker to develop in the minors, hopefully allowing him to become the player I think he can be.

Parker will likely get the chance to play short at the next level with his strong arm and solid glove. However, scouts say his average movement/range will likely dictate a move to second or third at some point.

He would have the glove to hold down either position, but feel his bat would be better suited for second. Just don’t think he will ever have the power to be elite at the hot corner.

JoJo Parker is a very intriguing prospect. At just 18 years old, I think a team is going to want to take a chance on that hit tool he already has. You don’t see that kind of maturity in the box at that age. Which is likely why a team will take him, believing the power will come in time.

Even if it doesn’t, though, you’d be getting a young kid with great bat control and understanding of the strike zone. Things guys usually have to develop over time.

If JoJo Parker doesn’t like where he ends up, he is committed to Mississippi State. Although I do expect he will hear his name called quite early, come July 13th.
