2024 MLB Draft Profile: Konnor Griffin

Continuing through with these profiles, we get to our first High School prospect, Konnor Griffin. The 18-year-old is committed to LSU. A university that has produced top picks such as Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews. Will he see the same success as those two and end up being a top pick? Let’s find out.

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 65 | Arm: 70 | Field: 60 | Overall: 60

At just 18 years of age, Konnor Griffin is one of the most physically gifted kids in this entire class. Including all the prospects coming out of college. He has the ability to be a true five-tool player with no glaringly obvious weaknesses in his game.

He already has a big-league frame, standing at 6’4 and 215 pounds. Which is simply unfair and absurd for a kid who is only 18 years old.

His length, though, does tend to make his swing a little long at times, which often gives him some timing issues that he continues to try to work out. But with some good coaching at the next levels, this issue is easily fixed as he learns to play within his huge frame.

Despite the large frame and plus power, he still has a great command of the strike zone and is able to make hard, consistent contact while not getting too power-hungry.

But that doesn’t mean Konnor Griffin doesn’t have the ability to hit the ball very far. His incredible bat speed and huge frame led many scouts to believe he could have 30+ home run power, and it’s very easy to see why.

As long as he can learn to drive the ball in the air a little more and overall become more comfortable with his large frame. He should have no problem giving plus power numbers for whatever team ends up with him.

His plus speed also gives him that rare 30-30 potential that you rarely see from prospects, much less one who is only 18 years old. But his 87 steals on 88 attempts point to his knack for swiping bags at a consistent rate.

Konnor Griffin grades as a plus defender at short, but many scouts feel he could win Gold Gloves as a center fielder. Center seems to be his ideal spot; his elite speed and frame allow him to cover a lot of ground. His elite arm has topped out at 96 mph on the mound.

It’s really easy to fall in love with the prospect Konnor Griffin. A true five-star prospect at just 18 years old should have plenty of teams drooling at the mouth. It would suck if he decides to go to LSU but I still think it’s worth the risk.

Prospects like Konnor Griffin don’t come around every year, and you need to try and jump on it when you have the chance. Even if it comes with a little bit of risk.
