2024 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 8

We are nearly halfway through the 2024 NFL Season! Who are some fantasy football breakout candidates that you consider for your lineup heading into Week 8? Last week was a poor week for us, swinging and missing on Xavier Legette and Justin Herbert, even though the latter threw for a season-high in yards (with zero touchdowns). Without further ado, let’s dive into our Week 8 selections!

Jalen McMillan, WR, Buccaneers

With Mike Evans sidelined with a hamstring injury and Chris Godwin out for the season with a fractured ankle, McMillan’s usage is expected to boost tenfold on the outside for the Buccaneers. Cade Otton, who totaled 100 receiving yards Monday night, is arguably the most attractive option, sure. But someone on this Tampa receiving core has to break out, and McMillan, ranked as a WR40 in standard formats (per Fantasy Pros), has not recorded more than three catches or 32 yards in a single game this season. Against a shaky Falcons secondary, I think McMillan could be in for a big week.

Taysom Hill, TE, Saints

What good would this entire post be if we didn’t include a tight end on national tight end day? Let’s use the most positionally versatile tight end in the NFL, who hasn’t played since Week 4 due to injury! He may not be trustworthy in non-best-ball formats yet, but Hill should always have at least one eye on him because of his unordinary, albeit beneficial usage for fantasy managers.

Jameis Winston, QB, Browns

Death, taxes, betting on the first week of Jameis Winston when he’s named the starter? Winston will take over for an injured Deshaun Watson in Week 8 after attempting just 11 passes last week, completing five for 67 yards and a touchdown. The Ravens’ defense has the fifth-worst EPA/dropback and has allowed the most passing yards and third-most touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season. A part of that has been due to game script, but regardless of what it is Sunday, Winston’s going to be chucking the pigskin around.
