It’s Sunday, and you may be questioning all of your life decisions two weeks through the NFL season with how the first two weeks have gone from a fantasy perspective. Never fear, here are a few fantasy football breakout candidates that you should consider putting in your lineup (depending on how deep your league is) for Week 3! Let’s dive into it!
Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco was placed on injury reserve earlier this week with a lower leg injury. The Chiefs did sign veteran Kareem Hunt, though I believe Steele will get the majority of carries in Week 3 over Hunt and Samaje Perine. Steele may have fumbled last week, but like Pacheco, Steele is a power runner who can shed tackles at the line of scrimmage. Against an Atlanta defense that’s mediocre against the run, Steele could breakout in Week 3.
Let’s try this again! After a very encouraging end to his 2023 season, while officially landing the lead RB gig in Las Vegas, I had him as a breakout candidate in Week 1. That was not the case; it’s been a very disappointing start to the season for White, who has gotten his volume eaten up by newly-signed Alexander Mattison. They may see a 50-50 split in Week 3 as well, though White will be up against the lowly Carolina Panthers, who are bottom-5 in success rate and EPA/play against the run game. If he doesn’t break out this week, then when will he?
Jennings will be the next man up in lieu of Deebo Samuel‘s injury. Jennings has received 13.8 percent of the target share and accounts for nearly 20 percent of the team’s receiving total through two weeks. Though against a below-average Rams secondary, I expect Jennings to have an even more popular target for Brock Purdy after finishing outside the top-35 in fantasy production both weeks.
It’s been two weeks to forget for Bears rookie Caleb Williams, who barely ranks inside the top-20 among quarterbacks in Week 3. It’s Williams v. Gus Bradley. The Colts’ defense has been horrendous. I think Williams snaps out of his rookie funk in Week 3. This is his most favorable matchup yet, albeit on the road.
