2023 NFL Draft War Room: Dallas Cowboys

You have to give Jerry Jones credit for one thing. The guy doesn’t suck at drafting. Go up and down the list. He’s picked really good players over the years for this Cowboys team. The roster is strong but you’re stuck in the middle with Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy. Despite the fact that it’s impossible, we will do our best to try to get them over the hump in this edition of the 2023 NFL Draft War Room!

The trade for Stephon Gilmore creates a nice little security blanket for draft day. We would love to have one of those top corners but don’t feel like we need to reach for one either. This secondary is pretty well taken care of. Adding a safety would be nice too.

For me, I feel like this is pretty easy. Terence Steele can’t be the starter at right tackle next year. This offensive line has been working miracles for years. Getting a true bonafide option at right tackle should probably be the top priority at the draft.

We got cheesed during the simulation but I’ll let you watch that for yourself. Adding a tight end would make a ton of sense. Dalton Schultz is gone. Blake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot are capable but not ever going to be the long term options at the position. Getting a player with a high upside in the second round would make a ton of sense.

Other things to consider. Do the Cowboys go running back in the third round again to find their Zeke replacement? I think Dallas fans will like the direction we went there. Adding a late round wide receiver? Pass rusher and defensive tackle depth also needs to be addressed.

Lastly, give old man Jerry some credit. His draft track record isn’t terrible.
