2023 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 7

We are officially nearing the end of October as we approach Week 7 of the 2023 NFL Season. Each week, we go over at least three fantasy football breakout candidates who could … you know, break out … in the upcoming week! Before we get into our Week 7 candidates, let’s see how we did in Week 6!

Not a bad week, and it’s something we can build off of! Now let’s jump into our three Week 7 fantasy football breakout candidates!

Jordan Love, QB, Packers

Love began the season strong but has looked poor as a passer if you’re taking his entire season into account. It’s been underwhelming. Thankfully for him, Green Bay is coming off a bye and is up against arguably the worst pass defense in the NFL in the Denver Broncos. Their defense has surrendered the worst EPA/dropback with the highest opposing success rate per dropback through six weeks. While both have struggled this season when healthy, Aaron Jones (if he plays) and AJ Dillon will help take the pressure off him offensively in the run game and in the short passing game. I “Love” this spot for Jordan Sunday, in what is likely his best matchup of the season fantasy-wise.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seahawks

Coming off Seattle’s bye in Week 5, Smith-Njigba tallied four receptions for a career-high 48 yards and finished as a top-50 receiver for the first time all season against Cincinnati. Conventional wisdom suggested that it was only a matter of time before the 2023 first-round pick was going to be more involved in the offense. That opportunity could spark even more in Week 7 against a more forgiving Arizona secondary. D.K. Metcalf is banged up with hip and rib injuries and is a game-time decision, which could allow for a greater target share for JSN, even if Metcalf is on the field.

Zach Evans, RB, Los Angeles Rams

Evans rightfully received plenty of buzz entering this week due to injuries to both Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (PCL). Evans, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft, had only four carries for 10 yards last week, but could project to be the RB1 against Pittsburgh in Week 7. McVay oftentimes deploys a running-back-by-committee structure, so veterans Darrell Henderson or Royce Freeman could garner plenty of snaps in the backfield. But I believe there will opportunity to go around and Evans, 22, has a great opportunity to stick out amongst the bunch on Sunday against a below-average Steelers run defense.
