Slowly but surely, we are approaching the halfway mark of the 2022 NFL season. Not yet, but it’s coming! Any who, Week 7 kicked off Thursday between the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints — the best Thursday night matchup, on paper, we’ve had in several weeks! Though it did compete with the sports equinox with the NBA regular season starting up, MLB Postseason, NHL, MLS and even some college football action! While your brain frantically decides what you want to watch, let’s dive into some Week 7 fantasy football breakouts!
But first, how’d we do last week?
Perhaps our best week yet! Now let’s jump into Week 7 candidates!
Hunter Renfrow, WR, Las Vegas Raiders
Renfrow‘s fantasy value will buoy if Waller’s still out with his hamstring this week. He caught four passes for 25 yards on Sunday in his return from a concussion. Renfrow has caught just 14 passes for 105 yards without a single touchdown on the season. Davante Adams might see a lot of Derek Stingley Jr., so I’d expect a higher target share out of Renfrow this upcoming week against Houston. This could be a massive week for the 5-foot-10 breakout candidate.
Robert Tonyan, TE, Green Bay Packers
Patience has appeared to be running thin in Green Bay with different pass catchers, and Randall Cobb is expected to miss at least this week with an ankle injury suffered on Sunday. Tonyan caught 10 passes for 90 yards against the Jets, but the 6-foot-5 tight end has caught just one touchdown this season. Green Bay has to get into the red zone against Washington first, but it’s not unrealistic that Tonyan could have a massive breakout performance in Week 7.
Davis Mills, QB, Houston Texans
While Mills‘ two best skill position players around him are Brandin Cooks and rookie running back Dameon Pierce, I still see Mills, coming off the bye week, breaking out against the Raiders. Mills has yet to put together a fantasy efficient game, having yet to throw for over 250 yards and two scores. But the Raiders’ defense has underachieved all season. This will be one to tab if you’re in a very deep league looking for a quarterback on the waiver wire due to a bye week situation.
James Robinson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
After getting in the endzone four times over the first three games, Robinson has yet to score over his last three, with a majority of the touches going to second-year Travis Etienne. It might be a tougher ask *now*, but I sense a Robinson touchdown in Week 7 against the surging Giants, who have been so-so against the run this season. Another Diamond dart throw, I know.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Arizona Cardinals
No rhyme or reason other than … he’s back! I’m not sure how much run he’ll get, but Hopkins will get peppered with targets from Kyler Murray whenever he’s on the field. His safety blanket is back!
*** Editor’s note: Hopkins finished the night with 10 receptions for 103 yards on 14 targets against the Saints. ***
