2020 NBA Offseason: Two trades for the Portland Trail Blazers to consider

There is a lot of trade buzz going on in the NBA right now. Here are two trade options for the Portland Trail Blazers to consider in the 2020 NBA offseason.

There are really only two big trades that I see being worth it for the Trail Blazers.

The Aaron Gordon trade

For a couple of years now, Portland has been linked to Aaron Gordon. Could this be the year they finally get him?

In the trade above, the Blazers could give up Ariza, Collins, and their 2020 first-round pick. This a nice trade for the Blazers, but the Orlando Magic probably wouldn’t take this unless the Anfernee Simons were to get thrown in as well and at that point, the trade wouldn’t be worth it for the Blazers. They’d be giving up way too much for just one player, who isn’t even the best at defense. Both Zach Collins and Trevor Ariza are better in that area.

Trade between the Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers

There’s a lot of speculation when it comes to the San Antonio Spurs. Will Gregg Popovich retire soon? Is it time for the Spurs to go into a rebuild?

The answer to the last question is yes, the Spurs should go into a rebuild. Here’s how they could do it while still having a chance to make the playoffs.

The Blazers could sign and trade Hassan Whiteside, and send him over to the Spurs with Ariza, Zach Collins, the 2020 first-round pick, and maybe Anfernee Simons for Demar Derozan and LaMarcus Aldridge.

How does this trade help both sides?

If the Blazers truly are in a win-now mode, which they should be. This trade allows them to bolster their starting rotation, with an athletic playmaker at the small forward position in Demar DeRozan. This would allow for Lillard and McCollum both to be able to play off-ball which could be a monster. Not only that but it would give the Blazers some defense at the three.

But imagine this “DeRozan with the ball, passes to Lillard, now DeRozan is cutting across the back door, Dame with the lob and Derozan slams it home.” An alley-oop from Dame to DeRozan would be epic.

But this trade would also bring LaMarcus Aldridge back to Portland. He and Lillard have fixed their problems both have talked him making a return. Although, Stotts and Olshey didn’t bite towards the end of the season. Aldridge can still score which would add to the forward position, but not only that he is still a good defender. Which would add a lot of value alongside Jusuf Nurkic. The four is a position that the Blazers struggled with on defense all year long and Aldridge could be the answer.

A team of Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, DeRozan, Aldridge, and Nurkic with Gary Trent Jr., Rodney Hood, Carmelo Anthony, and a few others would a beast of a team, maybe even an unstoppable force.

Although both of these trades could help the Blazers, the latter would be the best option for a team that should be trying to win a championship for their star point guard. We will have to wait just a few more days to see what Neil Olshey and Terry Stotts have in store for the Portland Trail Blazers. They could keep the roster intact and just replace a couple of key pieces!
