Why Did Vince McMahon Retire From The WWE In 2022?
Vince McMahon is in the headlines yet again following the reports of WWE being sold to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. Mr. McMahon seemingly always finds himself at the center of professional wrestling news and especially as of late. There have been a lot of conflicting reports on if WWE has been sold or not. But all of this news is coming off of the heels of Vince McMahon returning to the WWE. Mr. McMahon returned to the Board of Directors reportedly to pursue selling WWE. Following his return, his daughter and Co-CEO of WWE, Stephanie McMahon, announced her resignation from the company. But why did Mr. McMahon retire from the WWE?
Vince McMahon Retires
On July 22, 2022, Vince McMahon announced his retirement from the WWE, shocking the wrestling world. This came off the heels of sexual misconduct allegations made against him. WWE’s Board of Directors investigated the situation and in doing so, they unearthed old payments to former employees of the WWE. There were pacts worth over 12 million paid to former employees who were allegedly sexually harassed by Mr. McMahon. Following these allegations, Vince McMahon stepped down as CEO and officially retired from the WWE.
But recently Mr. Mahon returned to the WWE reportedly to pursue a sale of the company. There has been a lot of developing news to the story, but none has been confirmed by WWE or Mr. McMahon. Many fans were excited to see WWE under a new regime and the reception has been positive since Triple H took over as head of creative. But as of late, there has been a lot of negativity surrounding Mr. McMahon’s return to the company.
