Out of all of the free agent quarterbacks that will likely hit the market, I feel the best about Teddy Bridgewater. I’m going to assume that Jameis Winston, Dak Prescott, and Ryan Tannehill either get long term deals or franchised by their current team. That leaves Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, Cam Newton, Derek Carr, and Philip Rivers as potential options. Some are more realistic than others. If we’re being honest, isn’t Brady the least enticing option out of all of them. Better yet, in what world is Tom Brady worth more money than Teddy Bridgewater?
I want to leave a snippet from Mike Florio’s latest post about Bridgewater’s market:
“Forget TB12, at least for now. There’s another TB who will definitely be a free agent next month, and some are suggesting that Teddy Bridgewater could cash in significantly.
Ultimately, anyone is worth whatever someone will pay them. But in a market that will be full of plenty of current and former starting quarterbacks, $30 million for Bridgewater is a lot.”
A: That is such a horrible way to look at it. You are paying for future performance, not past production. You don’t get bring Tom Brady’s Super Bowl rings with you. You are paying for 43-year-old Tom Brady. The same guy who averaged 6.6 yards per attempt and 6.8 AY/A. Brady ranked near the bottom of every quarterback category. That was at the age of 42 in the Patriots system. We’re supposed to believe he will be better another year older? I swear maybe I’m the only guy who’s TV works. This is old man Peyton Manning all over again. Tom Brady can’t play anymore.
B: Bridgewater is a former starting quarterback. I’m not sure where that argument comes into effect. He started with Minnesota too. I know that Bridgewater had a significantly higher completion percentage than Brady (67.9 compared to Brady at 60.8). In 5 starts, Teddy did not lose this year with the Saints. 9 to 2 TD – INT ratio isn’t too shabby either. He also had a higher YPA, AY/A, and rating than Brady.
Oh, did I also mention that Teddy is 27? What are we doing here? Why is this even an argument? Teddy Bridgewater absolutely deserves more money than Tom Brady this offseason. I’m not sure it’s even arguable.
