Way Too Early 2022 NFL Draft Tight End Rankings

Let’s get this out of the way right now. There is no Kyle Pitts in this draft. However, it’s never too early to talk draft so let’s rank the top tight ends. Let’s rank the top five tight ends in the way too early 2022 NFL Draft rankings.

5: Isaiah Likely (Coastal Carolina)

This is my shot in the dark pick. I think Jamey Chadwell is building a hell of a program. He just had a tight end average 20 yards per reception in a weird option offense. Good size and speed here. Who knows. Could be the guy that explodes.

4: Cade Otton (Washington)

There’s a little Will Dissly here somewhere. 6’5″ and 240 pounds but competes his ass off. Blocking is not an option. He wants to do it. Think we might have a rich man Tommy Tremble. Time will tell.

3: Peyton Hendershot (Indiana)

I watched the Penn State and Indiana game. Peyton Hendershot was the best tight end on the field that day. If you outperform Pat Freiermuth, that’s good enough to make this list. That’s how tight ends work. Throw shots in the dark, man.

2: Charlie Kolar (Iowa State)

Now, Charlie Kolar has actually been on my radar. I wrote up on him a lot last year because I actually thought he was going to declare. Dude is a BIG target 6′ 6″ and 258 lbs. Apparently, he went back to school because he flipped a coin on it.

I don’t even know how special he is but Kolar looks like a less athletic version of Mike Gesicki. If Kolar can build upon that, he is the clear TE2 heading into the draft.

1: Jalen Wydermyer (Texas A&M)

Jalen Wydermyer started out as a raw receiver that was way too big and didn’t really know what he was doing. He’s turned into a damn stud tight end and the scariest on in the country. 6’5″, 265 pounds, and a great athlete for the position. He can block his ass off with excellent hands.

Now, I don’t think he’s Pitts. I’m not even sure he’s a first rounder right now. BUT… he’s not done growing. This is the year where we find out just how good this cat is.
