Von Miller Is Heading To Hollywood
Von Miller is adding himself to a star-studded defense. Adam Schefter reported that 8-time Pro Bowler is headed to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a second-round and third-round pick. This move is very telling in terms of the season for both teams involved. A defensive trio of Miller, Aaron Donald, and Jalen Ramsey is easily the most fearful in all of football. This trade symbolizes the directions that both the Rams and Broncos are moving in.
It’s All In For LA
Once again, the Rams have sacrificed additional draft capital in their pursuit of a Super Bowl Title. After parting with multiple first-round picks in the acquisition of Matthew Stafford, the Rams have doubled down on their window of contention with three of the best defensive players now wearing blue and yellow. Their argument is simple; who needs a ton of draft picks for the future if you want to win now? So far in the 2021 season, that argument has held up with a 7-1 record to show for it. Cooper Kupp has been a revelation with Stafford joining the fray and their defense is set to get even better.
I already considered Sean McVay’s defense the best in the NFL heading into the season, but they could now become one of the best in recent memory with the addition of Miller. They are also unafraid to splash the cash as the Rams will now pay $9 million of Miller’s $9.7 million salary for the 2021 season according to Schefter. Their push for a championship has arguably reached a fever pitch as they sit tied with the Arizona Cardinals for first in the NFC West.
Stuck In Neutral For Denver
Yet again, the Broncos’ rebuild has failed to take a meaningful step forward after their 2016 Super Bowl triumph. A 3-0 start impressed many, but Vic Fangio’s squad has shown fatigue and inconsistency after wins against 3 draft lottery teams in the Jets, Giants, and Jaguars. Many Broncos fans were hoping for a step forward in 2021, but it has only been more of the same. Teddy Bridgewater has provided stable play at the quarterback position, but nothing out of the ordinary. The loss of receiver Courtland Sutton with a season-ending injury was a big blow in a frustrating season for Denver. A 4-4 record could mean a playoff push is possible but there were certainly aspirations of being above .500 halfway through the season.
The NFL already never disappoints. However, a blockbuster like this takes it to another level. Von Miller is on the chase for another Super Bowl ring to solidify his status as a hall of fame pass rusher. This is easily the best Rams team in the Sean McVay era, as it is once again Super Bowl or nothing in Tinseltown. With almost a half-dozen legit contenders for the NFC, this trade deadline and second-half of the season will be one for the history books.
