Vic Fangio Completely Butchered Denver’s Quarterback Situation

Vic Fangio enters his third year in Denver following a number of mediocre seasons. Fangio has a 12-20 record during his time in Denver and entering 2021 has found himself on a bit of a hot seat. This team has a bunch of high-end players on both sides of the ball. Guys like Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Bradley Chubb highlight a young and talented squad. The only problem, Fangio made a huge whiff on naming the starting quarterback.

The Broncos have become a really underrated team heading into 2021 but the quarterback position remains the Achilles heel for this franchise. Since Peyton Manning hung up the cleats, Denver has had 11 starting quarterbacks. They have trotted out a number of guys you’ve never even heard of, I mean Brett Rypien and Trevor Siemian, who?. It was announced a couple of days ago that Teddy Bridgewater had been named the starter over Drew Lock, hey coach Fangio, what are we doing?

Let me get this out of the way by saying I have nothing against Teddy Bridgewater. He was a talented quarterback during his time in Minnesota and by all accounts, he is a high-level guy when it comes to his character. However, his days of being a starting quarterback are behind him. I mean the Panthers moved on from Teddy after one year and traded for an unproven quarterback in Sam Darnold.

Where I disagree with Fangio is why they could not have named Drew Lock the starter, have him play a couple of games, and if he stinks then you go with Teddy. This offense is loaded with deep threat receivers and despite Lock’s other problems, he has an absolute hose of an arm. You have to see what you have in Drew Lock, plain and simple. I hate to make this comparison because the situations are different but Josh Allen looked pretty damn bad his first two years and then exploded in year three. Why not give Lock a chance, you’re not paying him anything and if the team stinks, go draft a rookie quarterback.

Teddy has shown to be a great “bridge” quarterback and can win you a couple of games but there is a ceiling to his game. If Teddy Bridgwater is your starting quarterback in 2021, I cannot take your team seriously. I know Fangio needs to win games but Drew Lock has too much raw talent to be the backup quarterback.
