Vaughn Grissom Thankful Mets Didn’t Draft Him

Vaughn Grissom is the newest lightning rod Braves youngster that Atlanta will somehow convince to sign a contract extension worth a bag of nickels. Grissom, 21, is the Braves number one prospect according to MLB.com. If you ask Grissom, he’s just happy that the Mets didn’t take him instead.

OUCH. Did Vaughn Grissom move up to public enemy number one for Met fans?

In an article published by Mark Bowman, Grissom said “I thought I was going to be a Met, which would have been terrible,”

Finding a guy like Grissom in the 11th round doesn’t get much better in terms of drafting and developing talent. Since being called up straight from AA, Grissom sports a batting line of .382/.424/.600 with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI. His slash line against the Mets in three games is even better (.429 with a .967 OPS).

The Braves totally nailed the 2019 MLB Draft. Shea Langeliers was their first round pick who was sent to acquire Matt Olson. Michael Harris got picked in the third round. That’s masterclass scouting right there.

It remains unclear why Grissom hates the Mets. Grissom is from Florida and was committed to play for Florida International but didn’t really want to take the college route. Maybe Grissom grew up a Braves or Marlins fan and just despises the Mets? I guess maybe one day we will find out the real reason.

If you needed any more ammo for this Mets-Braves rivalry, add this one to the fire. The NL East race is a dog fight between those two teams and feel destined to meet in October. We will surely hear some boo birds at Citi Field every time Vaughn Grissom takes the field at Citi Field for the rest of his career.
