I thank the lucky stars every day that I have such a great memory. Fans react to what you have done for me lately. Not too long ago, Dwayne Haskins beat Joe Burrow out for the starting job at Ohio State forcing the latter to transfer. In the present, Haskins struggled as a rookie and Burrow is coming off a Heisman Trophy and National Championship winning season. Does that automatically make Dwayne Haskins worse than Joe Burrow? I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Apparently, Urban Meyer had some thoughts.
In a recent interview, Urban Meyer essentially came out and said that Dwayne Haskins is better than Joe Burrow:
“Dwayne Haskins is probably the best quarterback ever to play at Ohio State,” Meyer said.
“Joe was a little behind. You know why? Joe was also Mr. Ohio in basketball and they had a great team in the state championships, and he’s just one of those all-purpose tough guy leaders,” Meyer said. “Joe Burrow is a no brainer. Absolute no brainer. Can he throw as accurately as Dwayne? He’s improved, but he wasn’t that way. But his leadership skills, his toughness, competitive — you talk about a competitive maniac, that’s who Joe Burrow is.”
Yes, I’m aware he didn’t come right out and say Dwayne Haskins was better than Joe Burrow but it sounded pretty obvious. It wasn’t too long ago that Haskins threw 50 touchdowns in a single season which is still a conference record. Giving up so soon on Haskins would be a mistake. Nobody was going to thrive in the situation Washington put him in last year. Joe Burrow won’t be entering much better of a landed spot with Cincinnati.
It’s going to be fascinating to see if Haskins or Burrow has the better NFL career. If I had to bet on it, I would take Haskins but it feels like a coinflip at best. Then again, I’m not as high as everyone else on god, Joe Burrow.
