UNC’s Armando Bacot will appear in hit Netflix show, Outer Banks

UNC center Armando Bacot is taking his talents to the Outer Banks – the television show that is. Bacot, fresh off a historic individual performance at the NCAA Tournament and a national title appearance with the Tar Heels, is set to appear in a few episodes of the hit Netflix television show, as first reported by Inside Carolina‘s Ross Martin.

The Richmond, Va. native will play a character named “Mando”, but that is about all the news available at the moment. On his Instagram story, Bacot posted a couple pictures with actors Chase Stokes and Rudy Pankow, who play two of the show’s principal characters, John B and JJ.

Bacot, who averaged 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game as a junior, announced on April 13 he would be returning for his senior year. He also became the first player to ever post six double-doubles in one NCAA Tournament, averaging 15.3 points and 16.5 rebounds per contest.

Bacot told Inside Carolina that his decision to return to UNC was all about hanging banners.

“I just thought it was the right move,” Bacot told Inside Carolina. “Just with the way we went out and wanting the chance to win a championship — if that’s an ACC Championship, NCAA Championship. I just want to come back and say I got something done.”

The 6’10” big man is one of four starters who are returning to Chapel Hill for another season under head coach Hubert Davis. Guards R.J. Davis and Caleb Love are back in the backcourt, with lockdown defender Leaky Black taking advantage of his COVID year for a super senior season. 80% of the “Iron Five” will take the court for the Tar Heels in November, with hopes of adding another banner to the rafters in the Dean Dome.

But in the meantime, Bacot will continue to be a man who wears many hats. He is a dominant basketball player, an active recruiter in the transfer portal, a rescuer of old women from cages and now, an actor.
