There is no great way to introduce these types of news stories. Especially for a player who has already had hip surgery previously. Now he’s having another one as this injury has pretty much plagued Tyler Seguin for his entire career. Now he’s having another one and will likely end his 2024-25 NHL Season.
General manager Jim Nill gave a statement and announced the the Stars centerman is out 4-6 months.
“Tyler’s been dealing with this, been managing, I guess is the best way to say it, for a while,” general manager Jim Nill said. “And it just got to a point where it’s really this time to have surgery, and it’s a wear-and-tear injury.”
It sucks but we still have to talk about where things go from here. The bottom line is from a roster perspective part of this, moving Seguin’s cap hit of $9.85 million to LTIR opens up oodles of cap space. You bet your behind that Dallas will use that cap space to make moves at the deadline. If Nill is smart, he will buy himself another defenseman and center with this leftover LTIR money.
I am on record for calling Seguin washed a few years ago. To his credit, he’s bounced back great since then. Seguin had 20 points in 23 games this season and was playing great. The part that sucks is it’s hard not to think about how Nicklas Backstrom went downhill after his hip surgery in his 30’s.
“He’s done a great job with it,” defenseman Miro Heiskanen said. “You couldn’t really tell if he’s hurt or not, he was playing so good.”
