TJ Watt Signs Mega Extension With Steelers

It has finally happened, the Pittsburgh Steelers and TJ Watt have agreed to a contract extension that makes Watt the highest-paid defensive player in football. The deal is a four-year and worth $112 million, with $80 million fully guaranteed, per Ian Rapoport.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have finally paid their man. After an interesting holdout during training camp, TJ Watt gets the financial security he’s been waiting for in the form of market-setting money, and most of it is fully guaranteed. The Steelers made an exception to their rule of hardly handing out guaranteed money. TJ Watt is exactly the man you make that exception for, he’s been a dominant force on a dominant defense in Pittsburgh.

Watt was a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft, since being drafted he has 49.5 sacks, 214 tackles, four interceptions, 25 pass deflections, and 17 forced fumbles in his NFL career. He’s been a first-team All-Pro twice, a second-team All-Pro once, and has made three Pro Bowls. He also led the NFL in sacks in 2020, and was a defensive player of the year finalist in both 2019 and 2020. It’s safe to say that Watt was worth the first-round pick.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been stingy when it comes to handing out guaranteed money. Well, there are exceptions to every rule, and TJ Watt is the exception to this rule. He’s worth every penny.
