Terry McLaurin is a fantasy football stud. There is plenty of doubt regarding his potential to be a WR1 this upcoming season, but his talent will prevail. First and foremost, Washington’s offense will improve from last season. The offense under Alex Smith was stagnant and racked up the 27th-most first downs. Such short drives lead to fewer opportunities, but McLaurin will be able to run more routes and accumulate more targets under the new and improved Washington offense.
With Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm, there will be more opportunities to find McLaurin on deep routes. Smith was a check-down machine last season, but Fitzpatrick is a well-known gunslinger and McLaurin will be the main beneficiary of this change in style. McLaurin and Fitzpatrick are demonstrating immediate chemistry in training camp too. Free-agent addition Curtis Samuel can play, but McLaurin will still operate as the X receiver while Samuel will operate primarily as a gadget guy. Ron Rivera utilized Samuel in that role at Carolina and I expect it to stay the same.
Terry McLaurin is currently going as the tenth wide receiver in fantasy football. I agree with his current draft price, but I really like his upside. McLaurin can easily surpass 150 targets and double-digit touchdowns this upcoming season, and his high ceiling makes him an ideal target in fantasy football drafts, particularly for those who targeted running backs with their earlier picks.
