Stipe Miocic Says he will beat Jon Jones’ Ass

Jon Jones made history at UFC 285. The former light heavyweight champion easily defeated Ciryl Gane to win the heavyweight title. Just moments after the fight, Jones got on the microphone and set up his next fight which appears to be against consensus UFC heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic.

Miocic was complimentary of Jones’ performance at UFC 285 and expressed Jones was better than he expected. Still, he noticed holes in ‘Bones’ performance.

“Honestly, I thought it was going to a decision,” Miocic said during the UFC 285 post-fight show. “I didn’t know how Jon was, he took three years off but hats off to him. You see some things, I’ll keep them to myself but I definitely see some things [I can use].

“It’s a fight, he won, good for him. Hats off, but unfortunately he’s got to fight me in July.”

Jones has now proven that he is undoubtedly one of the best heavyweights on the planet. Despite that, Miocic voiced how he expects the fight to go. Let’s just say that he is supremely confident.

“Nothing’s going to change,” Miocic said. “I’m going to train my ass off and I’m going to beat that ass. Yes, 100 percent no questions [I want July]. I wanted this fight in March, it just didn’t work out. They gave it to Ciryl but unfortunately I’ll wait until July, it’s fine.

“You’ll see in July. You’ll see what the difference is, I’ll tell you right now.”

I will say, Miocic didn’t blink at the fact that he can defeat Jones. Even after watching Jones put on a historic performance, Miocic was sted fast in the mindset that he is the guy to beat Jones.

This fight would serve as Miocic’s first fight back since losing the heavyweight belt against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. That fight did not go his way, but a fight with Jones is still intriguing. At a minimum, Miocic will be able to defend takedowns more efficiently than Gane. He may even be able to challenge Jones with his boxing too. Regardless of how the skills matchup, Miocic vs. Jones is an outstanding fight.

At this point, all of the questions of ring rust and inactivity shift over to Miocic. At 40 years old, Miocic is coming off a knockout loss and has been inactivity. That is not to say he can’t shake those issues, but they are worth monitoring.

As everyone knows Jones added a bunch of weight in anticipation of his UFC debut. That doesn’t seem to bother Miocic though as he is bigger than Jones and Gane.

“He’s a big boy,” Miocic said about Jones. “He’s 6-foot-4, 247 [pounds] or something like that. I’m bigger than that. We’re all big boys at heavyweight. I actually weigh more than both of them right now. I actually weigh 253 [pounds] so it’s kind of nice.

At UFC 285, Jones’ wrestling looked great. Although, Miocic’s size should be beneficial if Jones looks to grapple him.

Jones vs. Miocic may be even bigger than UFC 285. The greatest fighter of all time versus the greatest heavyweight of all time sells itself. As we build up to this fight, the next couple of months should be interesting.
