Steven Cheah Signs New Barstool Contract To Lead Chicago Office

Apparently, this news was so big that Adam Schefter tweeted it out? Steven Cheah is getting a big promotion. Cheah is not only signing a new three year contract. Barstool Sports has named Cheah the VP of football operations based in the new Chicago office.

Schefter tweeted out the news. Cheah also wrote a blog based on what was happening.

The blog by Cheah is terrible so don’t bother reading it. If you want a summary of the blog, it’s basically a Wikipedia page. The first two paragraphs start with “I” and it’s basically a rundown of his Barstool journey thus far.

By all accounts, Cheah seems like a nice guy. There hasn’t been any past controversy around Cheah that would suggest that he has bad character. With that being said, It’s hard to understand this move. Well, maybe I should say it shouldn’t be a surprise based on the way Barstool operates. They like fan boys. They don’t actually want smart people running their sports operation.

Cheah’s recent blog on Jeff Nadu was pathetic. The fan boys in the media have no value in the market. More than anything, this seems to be a promotion based on Cheah working his way up the ladder. Barstool also doesn’t have any real NFL style bloggers so I have no idea exactly who Cheah is going to be overseeing.

It remains to be seen what Barstool has planned for the new Chicago office. It sure seems like it will include more than the normal Chicago crew (Eddie, Dave, etc). Anything Chicago related in Barstool only gets the needle moving if Big Cat is involved. With Dave refusing to acknowledge he should retire, time will tell how this new Chicago office pans out.
