Special Guest Referee Announced For WWE Extreme Rules 2022
WWE Extreme Rules is looking like it’s going to be an amazing show. They finally went back to making every match have a stipulation, which was the whole purpose of the show. There are six matches with six different stipulations. We’re about a week away, which leaves plenty of time for more surprises for the show. Well, it looks like we received another surprise for Extreme Rules. Former UFC Lightheavyweight, Heavyweight Champion, and Hall of Famer, Daniel Cormier, is set to be the special guest referee at the show.
A Match Like None Other
First reported by Ariel Helwani, Daniel Cormier is going to be the special guest referee for the Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at Extreme Rules. A Fight Pit match is sort of like WWE’s version of an MMA fight. The ring has no ropes, and there is a small cage that gets put around the ring. The top of the cage has a small platform that goes around the outside to walk on. Furthermore, the only way to win a Fight Pit match is by knockout or submission.
WWE announced that there will be more details coming during Monday Night Raw. Extreme Rules was already an extremely intriguing show, but it looks like it got more interesting. It makes sense to have a former UFC champion be the referee for what is WWE’s version of an MMA match. So, Matt Riddle clearly has the advantage not only because he has competed in a Fight Pit match, but because he is a former MMA fighter himself. Like many others, Riddle transitioned from MMA into professional wrestling and has found success.
Daniel Cormier is a guy that seemingly has always shown some interest in WWE. While he has never competed in WWE, he’s always talked about doing it. Since he retired from MMA and got inducted into the UFC hall of fame this year, it’s more of a reality now. Also, there might be some bias from Cormier as Matt Riddle competed in the UFC for a while. So, is this the beginning of Daniel Cormier’s WWE career? Regardless, the WWE Extreme Rules match card just got a little more interesting.
