Should The Celtics Want Jeff Bezos As The Owner?

Bill Simmons put out a report that Jeff Bezos was gaining traction to eventually become the owner of the Boston Celtics. Another report immediately shot it down because… Bill Simmons sucks, and the part that it doesn’t seem like he’s overly interested in buying the team.

Let’s put all the nonsense to the side for a second. Should Celtics fans actually want Bezos as the owner? That’s really what should be talked about.

There is one elephant in the room that Bezos would immediately negate. The looming luxury tax bill is coming and Bezos would represent the type of owner who would take care of that no problem. I think fans are most concerned about keeping this team together. Having an owner that is willing to pay the tax is probably item number one. Good luck finding someone with more money than the Amazon guy. A big tax bill is just a bad Tuesday for Amazong. He’s got plenty of money than he will ever know what to do with.

Local fans may have gripes with other things that probably aren’t as important. Would Bezos make sweeping changes in the arena? Stuff like that we’ll never know the answer until it happens so no reason to speculate. I can’t imagine any owner would be in a rush to fire Brad Stevens or break up a team that just won the title. Money makes the world go round.

Time will tell who the new owner of the Celtics turns out to be. I’m just not sure having Bezos would be a bad option. How could it be if the luxury tax was never a concern?
