Sean Payton Wants To Return As Saints Head Coach

Sean Payton anticipates returning to New Orleans (Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports)

Saints head coach Sean Payton is a hot name in the coaching carousel this offseason. There has even been a rumor that the Saints will shop their head coach in the form of a trade. Thus far Payton has done nothing but shut down those rumors which he explained on his radio show.

My plan is to definitely to be back here. … I have four years left on my contract, and I plan on honoring that.”

The Rams are one team that was rumored to be interested in his services. Payton does have a connection to the LA area but it seems unlikely that the Rams would offer any kind of significant compensation. The Saints would have no motivation to just let Payton go considering he has four years left at $10 million per season.

It would be a shock to see Payton leave else where unless the Rams really offer a lot in return. It seems like another go around with Payton and Drew Brees will be the plan for the 2017 version of the Saints.
