Duke had 3 of the top 10 picks in the 2019 NBA Draft. Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish. Despite the hype that surrounds Zion Williamson, fellow rookies actually believe that Cam Reddish will have the better career. No, I’m not making that up.
“In the league’s annual survey of rookies, players were asked which member of the 2019 class would have the best career. Williamson received only 5% of the votes.
Cam Reddish, Williamson’s teammate at Duke, garnered 19% of the votes. Reddish went to the Atlanta Hawks with the 10th pick of the draft.
Reddish was followed by Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies with 16% of the votes and De’Andre Hunter of the Hawks with 11%.
Williamson was tied with RJ Barrett of the New York Knicks, Coby White of the Chicago Bulls and Williamson’s teammate on the New Orleans Pelicans, Jaxson Hayes.”
Interesting choice by the players. To me, Cam Reddish is a classic boom or bust guy. There were a lot of times that Reddish looked lost at Duke. There were other times where his jumper got hot and he flat out carried the offense. It’s tough to project that kind of inconsistency from a True Freshman. I do have high hopes for Reddish. Better than Williamson? Maybe, but probably not. The NBA Draft is a guessing game for the most part.
Other noteworthy things in the poll included the following: Zion Williamson gained 35 percent of the vote to win Rookie of the year. The was the highest percentage. Bol Bol was voted as the steal of the draft, Tyler Herro via Kentucky was voted as the best shooter, Matisse Thybulle was chosen as the best defender, and Ja Morant as the best playmaker.
