Robert Saleh: “This is Not the Same Old Jets”

The Jets are a few weeks away from drafting their newest quarterback, and Robert Saleh made it clear that there is already a culture change in the organization. In a press conference, the first time head coach gave credit to Joe Douglas and the team he is building around him.

“It’s more of a testament to players, they see the things we are doing in this organization. You can always beat the narrative of the same old Jets, but it’s not. [It’s because of] what Joe has already been able to establish with the foundation.”

Saleh is coming from San Francisco where he was the defensive coordinator for Kyle Shanahan. He is already highly regarded coach in the NFL, but this is his first gig as a head coach and he hasn’t truly been exposed to the true Jets.

Douglas has dealt with his fair share of criticisms and rightfully so. Giving Ryan Kalil the bag after a season off was not the best move. That also happened to be the same off-season where he signed Le’Veon Bell, one of the biggest misses in the last decade of free agency.

He said Douglas and staff are building a team with a group of guys that “just love football”. I thought Jamal Adams loved football but he could have just been the louder of the two sides. I understand that he inherited Adam Gase as his first head coach, but the product on the field has been atrocious.

That falls on the General Manager who is supposed to be able to build a roster. This year is a wash most likely unless Sam Darnold somehow wins the MVP in Carolina. That might be the case because he is a damn good quarterback and will thrive with the Panthers. Douglas wished him well, but if he does too well he is most likely out of a job.

A rookie quarterback usually means two things, a team is able to win now, or they are in full-blown rebuild. We all know what side of the spectrum the Jets fall on with that, but Robert Saleh thinks they are building a winning culture.
