Rob Manfred Should Be Ashamed Of Himself

Rob Manfred

There’s only one villain in the Astros cheating scandal. It’s the guy killing the sport, Rob Manfred and he should be ashamed of himself today. (Lynne Sladky/Associated Press)

I love baseball. I’m writing this blog as a baseball fan and somebody that wants what’s only best for the sport. I’ve loved baseball ever since I was a kid. I grew a fascination towards pitching and never wanted to miss a start by Pedro Martinez. I loved the art of pitching. Baseball is a great sport. It’s a sport of high thought process, strategy, and numbers. It’s also a game of patience, luck, and no clock. There is nothing quite like it. A blooper can fall in for a hit and 110 MPH laser off the bat can be caught. I love baseball. Unfortunately, we have a commissioner who is running the sport into the ground. I say this with all due respect but Rob Manfred should be ashamed of himself today.

AJ Hinch was suspended for an entire season because of sign stealing. The Houston organization was also fined and they were stripped of draft picks. The funniest part about it is that nobody looks worse today than Rob Manfred. MLB’s commissioner has given the sport an unnecessary black eye that he created for no reason.

I want to share this screenshot from our site group message. Chad Bauman hits the nail on the head. This is coming from someone that doesn’t care for baseball. All this is doing is alienating people like him that will never give baseball another chance.

Rob Manfred

Chad’s right. This is why baseball is dying. This is why mostly older people watch baseball. Nobody is worse at marketing their sport than baseball, but we will get to that. People of my generation grew up in the 90’s. Those are the people that are watching less baseball. MLB alienated those people. The sport was dying in the 80’s and 90’s. There was a massive strike and the sport nearly died. One group of guys saved it. Guys like Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, Alex Rodriguez, and Barry Bonds saved the sport. Instead of treating them as heroes, baseball turned them into criminals. The kids that grew up shut baseball off. They should have been role models for kids. Instead, the opposite happened and kids of our generation tuned out baseball.

By the way, there is no official rule against sign stealing. I read the entire handbook. All 200 pages of it. There is no mention of sign stealing. Not a single paragraph.

No mention of sign stealing. ZERO. Sign stealing has been around forever. It’s been in the game forever. Baseball has decided to turn the Astros and everyone involved in the scandal into villains despite the fact that there is no rule against it. There is no defined rule of punishment against sign stealing. Nothing defined in the rules handbook. Manfred is just making things up because he doesn’t like the technology aspect. It would be the equivalent of getting mad at someone for using plumbing because shitting outside is the only acceptable form of going to the bathroom back in the old days. Manfred should be ashamed of himself.

Baseball once again has turned the wrong people into villains. The Astros should be celebrated. This is a team that was losing over 100 games on an annual basis and turned into World Series Champions. It’s an incredible story. Baseball doesn’t know how to tell stories or market their sport in general. Alex Cora is getting slandered. This is a man that refused to take the manager job of the Red Sox unless they helped send resources to his home country of Puerto Rico to help Hurricane victims. People like Cora should be celebrated. He’s an incredible human being. Instead, baseball is treating Cora like he beat up his wife. Except, baseball would actually punish him less for that.

Manfred should spend less time going on useless witch hunts and spend more time getting asses in the seats. Focus on growing the game. No sport is dying faster than baseball. Attendance is down, TV viewership is done, everything about baseball is in decline. Manfred and the rest of the figureheads of MLB only have themselves to blame. Baseball is anti gambling, anti of sharing social media clips, and anti smart.

Baseball is the only sport in the world where the two leagues within the sport aren’t unified. How is anyone supposed to take baseball seriously when the rules aren’t even the same in both leagues? Baseball is the only sport that is tampering with the actual ball itself to make the game more interesting. It’s only alienating more people. Baseball held Opening Day in Japan and I didn’t even know about it. Do you know how hard that is to do for me to not know about a major sporting event? Baseball is the only sport that is starting to restrict how coaches can actually manage their teams with the 3 batter minimum. Doesn’t exist in any sport. The people that vote for the Hall of fame belong to an association called BBWAA. It’s so outdated that they think baseball is two words. Couldn’t make it up. Yet we wonder why baseball is dying?

Julian Edelman got popped for steroids in the NFL. Nobody cares. Barry Bonds is the all time home run leader and he’s not even in the hall of fame because they treat him like a criminal. Pete Rose should be celebrated. He’s a criminal according to baseball. Aroldis Chapman got suspended 30 games for domestic violence where a gun was involved. AJ Hinch got suspended and fired for a full year because he stole signs despite the fact that there’s no defined rule against it.

I believe him. You know why? Because baseball is unorganized. Baseball doesn’t have a defined rule or specific punishment for this. Rob Manfred is just making shit up as he goes. There was no defined rule for domestic violence either. He’s just making up punishments for that too. Baseball has bigger things to worry about other than breaking imaginary rules. Rob Manfred should be ashamed of himself. Baseball is dying and they only have themselves to blame. The Astros are not Villians here. The real villain is the guy who is killing the sport.
