Restaurant Manager Simulator is a great idle farming game, but is it worth the buy? Here’s an honest review of a game that sounded promising at first, but might have come up a little bit short.
While this game may not have lived up to the expectations of its title and description on Steam, there were some good things about this game. Firstly, it’s a very simple game. With Restaurant Manager Simulator you have one thing to do and that is to build the best restaurant you can. You can upgrade it by purchasing new kitchens and hiring new cooks, and you can even automate the damn thing but hiring managers (which can also be sold for half of the hire price, so there’s that). The music of the game is light and upbeat, making the game a fun experience for the limited work that is involved. Finally, the game is very easy to understand. It’s incredibly hard to mess up this game, almost idiot-proof, so that makes up for the clear lack of instructions early on.
The meh mostly revolves around the price of the game, at $5.69 CAD you’d expect something with a little more substance. A direct comparison I’m making is to the game Kindergarten, which also sells for the same price but has much more content. It has an actual story that’s very interesting and entertaining, little trophies in the game, subplots that need to be completed to get to the actual true ending, and offers a lot of replayability because of that. So if you’re looking for a game at that price, you have much better options.
As mentioned before, there is no story in this game, and that is a major turnoff for me. There aren’t even any real interactions with NPCs, it’s just a farming game that you can easily automate so that you don’t even have to play it. There is no motivation in this game or any incentive to progress aside from seeing your money count go up, but you can’t actually buy anything outside of stuff for your restaurant. There is next to no engagement generated within the game, and that makes it hard to play after the first time. The game does a poor job of creating interest and incentivizing you to keep playing, which is why I am disappointed with this game.
My final verdict of this game is that you have better options at the same price. The lack of story and natural engagement makes this game nothing more than an idle farming game at best. Overall, I would not recommend buying this game. It has potential, but it is not near reaching it yet.
