The Boston Red Sox have placed Clay Buchholtz on the disabled list prior to Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees. With Clay’s roster spot open the Sox have decided to call up on of their more prized prospects in Brian Johnson.
Johnson was Boston’s minor league pitcher of the year in 2014 and was leading the International League in wins with 8. Johnson was also named to an AAA All-Star appearance for Pawtucket. His 2.73 ERA in the minors earned him a spot on the major league roster.
Johnson will serve as an available arm in the bullpen for the final game before the All-Star break. Manager John Farrell has not made a decision on Johnson’s future but he could be a candidate to join the rotation after the break. The 24 year old should have a bright future in the majors.
